Historic Kirtland

When members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) headed west from Palmyra, New York, they settled in Kirtland, Ohio.  There, between 1831 and 1838, Joseph Smith defined church doctrine and his followers built their first temple.  While the temple building is now the Community of Christ Church, a number of old homes and buildings have been restored by the Mormon Church, including the Whitney Store.
