El Garces

Needles, CA

Needles is on the California-Arizona border.  Founded in 1883 to service the railroad, it remains today primarily a railroad town.  The El Garces Harvey House and Train Depot was built between 1906 and 1908, and it was a magnificent building, far from it’s decrepit appearance of today.  The city is in the process of renovating the building using only private donations and volunteer labor, so it’s going to be a while until it returns to it’s old glory.
