Kitt Peak Observatory
Kitt Peak National Observatory is in the Quinlan Mountains
56 miles southwest of Tucson. The peak is at 6,875-feet and is located on the
Tohono O’odham Reservation. Twenty-two optical and two radio telescopes, the
world’s largest collection, are located here. Three tours are given most days.
The 10 am tour, which we took, visits the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope Facility
which contains the world’s three largest solar telescopes (1.6-meter main and
two .9-meter auxiliaries).
