Mountain Palm Springs
The Mountain Palm Springs loop trail includes stops at
several palm oasis—Pygmy Grove, Southwest Grove, Palm Bowl Grove and Surprise
Canyon Grove. The palms are all Washingtonia filifera or fan palms.
Many have
never been burned, so they have thick skirts of dead fronds around their bases.
The loop, which is listed as being any where from just a couple of miles long to
6+ miles long, took us 3 hours, but we did not visit all the groves on various
spur trails.
