Pima Air and Space Museum
The
Pima Air and Space Museum is the largest private museum of this type in the
world. In the United States, only the Smithsonian and Air Force Museum are
larger. It has more than 250 aircraft on about 80 acres of land.
The
best way to get an overall appreciation of the various different aircraft is to
take the guided tram tour. One highlight of the tour is the SR-171
Blackbird, but the small plane used by Kennedy and Johnson on short hops is also
very interesting. The Guppy used by NASA is just plain weird looking.
While it's hard to believe this thing can fly, it does look better in
NASA colors.
And, if you've never seen a B-52, except in the movies, the picture in the lower
right probably still won't give you a true appreciation for just how big this
plane is.
