Queen Mine Tour

For the tour, we had to don yellow slickers, hard hat, and a hand-held light that was powered by a belt-pack.  The tour took a little over an hour.  Our guide Pete was a former underground miner who had worked in the smelters after the underground closed.  The tour began with a "train" ride where we had to straddle a center board.  After going to the end of level 3, 1500 feet in, we disembarked to see the chutes, the supervisor’s bicycle, the miner’s porti-poddy, and how they set the dynamite charges.  We then rode back a bit, got off, and climbed some steps to the original copper stope—a large room with about 6 tunnels leading off in various directions at various heights.  We then reboarded the train to exit the mine.
