Rockhound State Park

 

Rockhound State Park is on the western slopes of the Little Florida Mountains.  It is a park where visitors are encouraged to gather up and remove rocks—up to 15 pounds per person.  Gem rocks such as agate, jasper, quartz, and perlite can be found.  In fact, just about every rock you pick up has some jasper in it.

There is a 1.2 mile hiking trail, but one is encouraged to get off trail to look for rocks.  I climbed up to the boulders below the peak for a leisurely lunch with a spectacular view of the valley below.
