Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge

 

The refuge is located at the southern tip of the Sea.  Originally established in 1930 by President Hoover with 37,600 acres, it now consists of only about 1,785 manageable acres because of flooding by the Salton Sea.
